Garner Prisoner Arrests

State police have arrested a Garner Correctional Institution inmate on six criminal charges in connection with incidents that occurred at the high-security prison on Nunnawauk Road on September 22 and 23.

On the afternoon of September 22, Antonio Ruiz, 18, started a fire in the toilet bowl in his prison cell, state police said. State police charged Ruiz with second degree arson, first degree reckless endangerment, and first degree criminal mischief.

While Ruiz was being processed for that arrest, he then spit in the face of a correction officer, state police said.

State police then arrested Ruiz on charges of assault on a public safety officer and refusal to be fingerprinted.

On the evening of September 23, Ruiz threw a cupful of urine onto a correction officer, state police said. That incident resulted in an additional charge of assault on a public safety officer, state police said. Ruiz is serving a Garner prison sentence after being convicted of assaulting a police officer. Ruiz was scheduled for court appearances stemming from the September 22/23 incidents.

In another matter, state police said that during the course of an inmate-vs-inmate assault in the state’s high-security Garner Correctional Institution on Nunnawauk Road about 7:30 pm September 21, Garner inmate Adam Dwayne Davenport, 20, assaulted two correction officers, injuring both officers. State police did not identify the injured officers.

State police arrested Davenport on two counts of assaulting a public safety officer. Davenport is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on October 3. Davenport is serving a prison sentence for a conviction on a narcotics possession charge.
