Ann E. (Roche) Loughman Smith

Ann E. (Roche) Loughman Smith, 68, of Naugatuck and formerly of Newtown, died September 22 at St Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury, after a long, courageous fight with cancer. She was a resident of Newtown most of her adult life.

Survivors include her son, Patrick B. Loughman III and his wife, Patricia, of Sandy Hook; her daughter, Sharon Ann Loughman Story and her husband, Ervin, of Woodbury; a grandson, Kyle Patrick Story; a niece who was like a daughter, Diane Seymour and her daughter, Autumn, of Orange Park, Fla.; her longtime companion, Robert J. Kingman of Naugatuck; her longtime close friend, Viola Murray of Sandy Hook; step-grandchildren, Frecia Story Ammons and her husband, Michael, and their children, Julia and Sawyer of Murrells Inlet, S.C. and Lauren and David Lattin of Danbury; two brothers, Edward and Joseph Roche; four sisters, Dolores Grossman, Constance Perry, Renee McEvoy, and Theresa Frangione; several brothers-in-law; and nieces and nephews.

Ms Smith was born in Stamford, on April 1, 1937, a daughter of Edward J. and Irene Z. Roche. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Stamford and was a graduate of St Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing in Bridgeport where she met her late husband, Patrick B. Loughman, Jr. She was a longtime nurse at local nursing homes, Fairfield Hills Hospital, and Southbury Training School before her retirement.

Ms Smith loved to travel, sew, and shop. Her family was the most important thing in her life.

Funeral services were held September 26 from the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown, and in St Rose Lima Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment followed in St Rose Cemetery.
