To the Editor:

I am writing this letter in support of the continued representation of Neil Chaudhary on the Newtown Police Commission. During my over 30-year law enforcement career few people I have worked with bring the intelligence and passion of Neil to the public safety arena. Newtown is extremely fortunate to have him as a member of the Police Commission.

Neil is a nationally recognized traffic safety scientist who works with Federal and State agencies across our country analyzing problems, collecting data, and collaborating with multiple departments to advocate for life-saving outcomes. I have worked with Neil on Connecticut Department of Transportation committees and task forces involving Distracted Driving, OUI, and Occupant Protection. He is always prepared with knowledge of the identified problem, the relevant facts, encouraging as many viewpoints as possible and then works to build a collective approach to solutions.

Neil worked with the DMV and legislators across Connecticut to develop the Graduated Driver’s License program for 16- and 17-year-old drivers. This initiative is the model for states across the country. What was borne out of tragedies in Connecticut, led to laws that have undeniably saved the lives of many of our children.

Dr Chaudhary is a former member of the Legislative Council and Newtown Public Safety Committee, and still serves on the Community Emergency Response Team. His dedication to Newtown’s residents is beyond question.

Neil Chaudhary is an incredible resource to our Police Commission. His skill set along with his knowledge of national and statewide traffic safety initiatives are an asset to Newtown and our police department. I encourage you to join me in voting to continue Neil Chaudhary’s service on our Newtown Police Commission.

As Neil Chaudhary has said, “Community before politics. Let’s move Newtown, not left, not right, but FORWARD.”

Sincerely,

Andrew Gallagher
