Beware: My Spectrum Offer Was A Scam!
To the Editor,
On Monday, September 25 I received a phone call from someone named Max (female) alleging to be from Spectrum’s sales office. They wanted to inform me that I was selected to receive a 50 percent discount on my bill under a program for seniors sponsored by Apple!
My $300 bill would be $150 a month for 2 years. The hook was in order to receive this great deal I had to prepay 3 months. For that I would not be billed the next 3 months and would only pay $150 a month for the 21 months thereafter.
Now the twist: they want me to pay for it with an Apple Gift Card for $450. I was to call the Spectrum Order department @ 1-855-482-3502 and use code number STM-2003-007-003. The gift card was the ask that woke me up and I hung up.
Just minutes ago I received another call, this one to complete the interrupted call. The number the call came from was 800-674-2597.
Hopefully this letter will help save others from getting sucked in. Just last month I had a problem with someone actually billing my Amex card as though they were Spectrum and being paid without question by Amex.
Luckily once I reported the situation Amex refunded the money and began a hunt for the scammers. Something needs to be done to protect the public from these ever increasing in volume and sophistication scam calls!
