DANBURY - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo's Curator of Education Jim Knox will participate in a TEDx talk on Thursday, October 5, at 5 pm, in the theater of Danbury High School, 43 Clapboard Ridge Road.tjaltieri1@gmail.com. Space is limited, and restricted to the first 100 requests, per TEDx rules. Guests will need to present their ticket confirmation number and ID outside the theater the night of the event for admission.

Mr Knox, a wildlife ethologist and Newtown resident, will talk about "How a Shark Taught Me to See," detailing his fieldwork studying great white sharks, grizzly bears, and African lions, and how understanding the context of animal behavior can relate to everyday life.

With more than 3,000 presentations to his credit, wildlife expert Jim Knox shares his passion for working with the world's most remarkable animals to transport audiences into his wild world. Early on, Mr Knox realized he commanded a unique opportunity - to partner with others to save the world's wildlife through the power of the spoken word. This realization leads him to deliver exceptional and enlightening presentations that raise awareness about conservation initiatives for the world's most critically endangered wildlife.

The TEDx talk is an "independently organized TED event," according to the organizers, with a overlying theme of "What Lies Beneath: Understanding Beyond the Superficial."

Other talks will feature psychiatric clinician Mary Poupon from Embrace Hope Sandy Hook, who will present "How Horses Are the Mirror to Our Souls and Help Us Heal," and Dr Ashley Byun, professor of biology at Fairfield University, who will present "Finding Their Way," how loggerhead turtles find their way from their natal shores to the open ocean in the first hour of their lives. Childhood nutrition expert Jill Castle will present "The Nutrition Prescription for Healthier Kids." Connecticut's State Archaeologist Brian Jones will speak on "Connecticut's 17th Century History."

The event is free, but overwhelming interest has required ticketing. For tickets, e-mail

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
