Virginia Mary Cooney, 84, of Newtown and previously of Monroe, died June 15 at her home. She was the loving wife of the late Daniel Cooney, to whom she was married for 50 years.

Mrs Cooney was the devoted mother of Alice, Daniel, Patrick, married to Laura, and Mathew Cooney. Her grandchildren, Kellie Kravarik and P.J., Grace, and Liam Cooney survive her, as well.

Mrs Cooney always had a kind word and loved to read. She was the youngest and last survivor of 12 siblings, Marjorie MacLennan, William P. Kelley, Jr, Donald Kelley, Helen Kelley, Alice Bradley, Leo Kelley, Frances Kelley, Anne McNamara, Therese Kelley, Eleanor Doherty, and Paul Kelley.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm, Wednesday, June 18, at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown, Thursday, June 19, at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in St Rose Cemetery.
