JV/ Freshman Team Update
Newtown High Schoolâs junior varsity/ freshman sports update is as follows:
Football: The freshman team defeated New Milford 39-0 and Pomperaug 44-8 in weeks one and two. Against New Milford, Jared Pearson had a 55 yard punt return for a score, and added TD runs of 35, 65, and 25 yards. Ethan Carpenter scored on a 63-yard run made possible by a George Salaris block, and Carpenter added a 35 yard interception return for a score. Quarterback Matt Maturo connected with Devin Luzietti for a 35 yard score. Sam Czel made a tackle for a safety; Christian Morlock, Carlo Fenaroli and George Salaris had quarterback sacks; and linebackers, Andrew Svanda and Nick Samuelson stopped the running attempts.
Against Pomperaug, Pearson had a 15 yard INT return for a score, Pearson hit Luzietti on a 20 yard pass for a TD, and ran 85 yards for another. Maturo connected with Luzietti for a TD, and Carpenter had a 94 yard kick return for a score. Salaris, Mark Urso, and Samuelson were strong on defense.
Newtownâs freshman football team was scheduled to play Stratford at the NHS practice field on Thursday (after The Bee went to press). The JV squad is slated to host Stratford at Blue & Gold Stadium on Saturday, September 29, at 10 am.
To Have Your JV/ freshman team publicized: The Bee will run junior varsity and freshman team results submitted in the following format, no later than noon on Tuesdays: Include name of sport, specify JV or freshman, limit to two to three sentences listing final scores, name of opponent, and a few of your team leaders, goal scorers, point-getters, etc, as sampled above. Please have only one team representative send a brief summary in the body of the email to andyh@thebee.com for publication consideration.
