Youth baseball scores and highlights are as follows:
Rockies 10, White Sox 3: The White Sox and the Rockies met on Saturday to determine who would remain the last undefeated team. A tight pitching duel resulting in only three hits and a 2-2 tie after four innings. Shea Talbot broke the game open with a hard-hit two RBI single that went all the way to the right center field fence to put the Rockies on top 4-2.
Luke Kirbey added a RBI single, while Aaron Kiby delivered a two-run single in the sixth. The White Sox loaded the bases in both the fifth and sixth innings only to be shut down by the pitching of Shea Talbot and Andrew Via, after only one run had been scored. Via earned his second save of the season. The Rockies pitching tallied a total of 11 strikeouts and only two hits for the entire game. Game ball honors was awarded to Ryan McNerney for his gameâs stellar hitting and reliable defense.
White Sox 13, Nationals 8: After trailing 1-0 in the first inning the Nationals struck for five runs in the bottom of the first. Dillion Larkin, Chris Maturo, and Jack Sullivan tallied consecutive hits to put the Nationals up 5-1. In the second, the White Soxs came right back, answering with seven runs of their own.
Singles by Patrick Oberstadt, an RBI single by Ryan Burns, and a two-run double by Robert Murray highlighted the action. The White Sox widened the lead to 12-6 with a two-run double and two-run single by Tyler Fuori. On defense, Garrett Marino started a 9-3-2 put out, while Ryan Burns and Patrick Oberstadt had fine plays to stop a Nationals rally in the fifth inning. Tyler Fuori pitched a scoreless two innings and Robert Murray a scoreless sixth to close out the game.
Rockies 10, Orioles 9. The Orioles jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly to center field. Aaron Kirby pitched an inning and two-thirds. Andrew Via entered the game with bases loaded and ended the potential rally with a strikeout.
He pitched a scoreless third inning as well. Sammy Kapur pitched the fourth and fifth innings, striking out four Orioles, all looking. With the score 10-3 in the top of the sixth, The Orioles made a run at The Rockies. A big RBI double by Harry Lucas gave the Orioles the chance they needed. Ben Albee received game ball honors after hitting an RBI double down the left field line and made the game-saving, diving stop behind the bag at second to retain the Rockies lead. In the end Luke Kirby held off the charging Orioles pitching the final two innings.
