USPS Seeks Interim Solution For Hawleyville
USPS Seeks Interim Solution For Hawleyville
By Nancy K. Crevier
Thomas Rizzo, public affairs and communications representative for the United States Postal Service (USPS), addressed local concerns about the Hawleyville Post Office in a phone call with The Newtown Bee on Monday, September 24.
He emphasized once again that the USPS has no plans to permanently close the Hawleyville Post Office located on Route 25.
â[The USPS] has been examining our options and have concluded that the physical conditions must be addressed at the Hawleyville Post Office. This may require a temporary relocation of our quarters there,â said Mr Rizzo. âIf it becomes necessary to do so, we will make every effort to minimize the inconvenience to our Hawleyville customers.â
For two years, the future of the Hawleyville Post Office has been fraught with rumors of imminent closure, renovations, or relocation due to space constrictions and the disrepair of the building. Safety issues at the Hawleyville Post Office have recently compelled the USPS to consider a temporary, alternate location for the small post office. Local residents have expressed to the USPS a desire to see the building improved and the importance of having the post office remain in the Hawleyville section of town.
âThe Postal Service understands the communityâs loyalty and attachment to the staff and tradition of the Hawleyville Post Office,â said Mr Rizzo.
While no firm decisions have been reached regarding Hawleyville as of this date, Mr Rizzo stressed that the USPS is optimistic that an interim solution will come sooner, rather than later.
âWe hope to announce an interim solution shortly,â said Mr Rizzo.
