Health District, Area Flu Clinics Set
Newtown Health District and the Visiting Nurses Association of Newtown are teaming up to provide flu shots to the Newtown community. Flu shot clinics are scheduled throughout the coming weeks, according to Newtown Health District Director Donna Culbert. The schedule includes:
October 1 and 17, 9 am to noon. at the town offices at 31 Peckâs Lane.
October 13, 9 am to noon at the Senior Center at 12 Riverside Road
November 8, 10 am to noon, at the Senior Center, 12 Riverside Road.
Health insurance accepted are Medicare Part B, Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, ConnectiCare, Oxford, and United Health Care.
Fee for shot without insurance is $15 for Newtown resident, or $30 for non-Newtown residents. Newtown residents who cannot afford the fee will be subsidized by the Newtown VNA/Health District.
Ms Culbert said those attending should be sure to bring an insurance card and/or bring ID to demonstrate residency. For more information, call the Newtown Health District at 426-4291.
Regionally, Flu and pneumonia clinics are again being offered by Brownstein Jewish Family Service. Shots are available for anyone age 9 and over, and preregistration is not needed for any of the clinics.
The first clinic will take place on Wednesday, October 10, from 10:30 am until noon, at Bânai Shalom, Synagogue, 135 Roseland Avenue in Waterbury.
The other two clinics take place at the Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus, 444 Main Street North in Southbury. The first will be on Monday, October 15, from 10 am until noon, and the second will be on Thursday, November 1, also from 10 am until noon.
Those seeking shots should bring their insurance cards. Covered insurances are Medicare Part B, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, ConnectiCare, Oxford, and HealthNet Smart Choice or HealthNet state contract.
For those who do not have insurance there will be a charge of $35 for flu and $50 for pneumonia shots.
A consent form will be available to sign. Shots are courtesy of VNA Health Care and RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program).
