Girls’ Swim And Dive Team Takes On Pomperaug

Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team hosted Pomperaug of Southbury and fell 102-78 on September 24.

The Nighthawks had some strong swims beginning with the 200 yard medley relay team of Sierra Marx, Alexa Kwarcinski, Maddie Marcisz, and Zoe Petertonjes racing to second place in a time of 1:58.55.

Kwarcinski won the 200 individual medley race in 2:14.30. Petertonjes won the 100 butterfly in 1:01.30. Newtown’s 200 free relay team of Kwarcinski, Indigo Land, Lillian Accettella, and Petertonjes was first in 1:46.40. Kwarcinski took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke race in 1:09.60.

In the diving competition, Petertonjes was first with a score of 155.95 and Grace Kase third with a 128.45.

Accettella was third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:08.43 and came in third in the 100 free in 59.18. The 400 free relay of Accettella, Emily Metzker, Angela Wennerholm, and Marx placed third in 4:14.02.
