SHPMC Members ‘Look Forward’ To October Meeting
While the Sandy Hook Permanent Memorial Commission (SHPMC) did not meet for their monthly meeting this September, they are anticipating convening at next month’s regularly scheduled meeting.
The SHPMC is currently in the process of assisting the town of Newtown with how to move forward with the selected memorial design and how to navigate its budget needs.
Daniel Krauss, SHPMC chair, told The Newtown Bee, “First Selectman [Dan] Rosenthal is actively exploring all funding options available to the commission, and we are looking forward to hearing his results at our October meeting.”
First Selectman Dan Rosenthal confirmed on September 24 that he is currently in communication with a fundraising firm and is going through the materials they sent. He believes by the commission’s next meeting he will be prepared to make a full report on this fundraising path and see if it will be beneficial.
He is mindful that despite looking into this fundraising option, it still may lead them to needing to take a closer look at the three refined designs provided by SWA Group, the design firm selected for its original memorial design.
The next Sandy Hook Permanent Memorial Commission meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 10, at 7 pm, in the Municipal Center’s Council Chambers. To contact the commission, e-mail sandyhookpermanentmemorial@gmail.com.
