To The Editor:

As Election Day nears I would like to share the following about Senator Chris Murphy.

In July 2020, Senator Murphy and others sponsored a Congressional bill HR 4011 to remove Police from schools not only in Newtown, but across the country.

Senator Murphy along with Sen Elizabeth Warren, Representatives Ayanna Pressley and Illhan Omar introduced a bill entitled “Counseling Not Criminalization in Schools Act” which would remove school resource officers and replace them with a system of counseling.

Murphy is quoted as saying “Police shouldn’t be in schools. There are plenty of better ways to ensure our schools are safe places to learn.” In September 2024 on site school resource officers in Georgia engaged a shooter within minutes preventing more deaths and injuries than if they had not been on site. Statistics show school resource officers are a valuable preventative measure in situations that occur.

As we go to cast our ballots shortly we need to ask ourselves why would we re-elect a person who clearly does not want our children protected?

Probably a good topic to discuss the pro and cons of. At the same time we should discuss why Mitch Bolinsky voted against the CT Gun Control legislation passed in 2023.
