Over the years Betsy Dakin and her sister have given many of their family’s heirlooms to Newtown Historical Society.

Dakin recently decided it was time to part with an antique Doolittle clock that spent many years in town before making its way across the country. She also gifted a desktop globe to the historical society this week.

The globe arrived in Newtown in the 1860s when Belle Fitch came to town from New Haven to teach school. Miss Fitch subsequently married Daniel Glover Beers. Their home, Beers Farm, was on land that is now part of the Fairfield Hills campus.

Dakin, who now lives in Lincoln, Mass., inherited the globe from her mother, a descendant of the Beerses.

She formally presented the globe to Newtown Historical Society Vice President John Renjilian on September 17.
