Slid On Wet Road
Newtown Police report Richard Guman, 54, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2006 Honda Pilot, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 7:31 am September 6. He was traveling behind a 2020 Subaru Forester operated by Jessica Recce, 26, of Shelton. Recce stopped for a vehicle in front of her that was turning left. Guman attempted to stop, and slid on the wet road surface and struck Recce’s vehicle front to rear.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action is mentioned in the report.
Unaware Of Collision
Newtown Police report Christopher Blagbrough, 60, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2005 Chevrolet Express, was in the parking lot of 102 Church Hill Road at 3:53 pm September 11. While backing up, his vehicle struck the rear bumper of a 2017 BMW X1 XDrive, which was occupied by Margaret Shields, 21, of Plantsville. Blagbrough left the scene after the collision. He was located by police and told them he did not realize he struck another vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
No enforcement action was taken as the incident occurred on private property.
Too Fast For Conditions
Newtown Police report Amaya Moxam, 20, of Monroe, operating a 2011 Toyota Camry, was traveling east on Berkshire Road near its intersection with Jordan Hill Road at 6:44 pm September 11. Moxam lost control of the vehicle and it crossed over into the westbound travel lane before spinning around and striking the westbound curb and then a mailbox.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Moxam was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
DUI Arrest
Newtown Police report Edisson Villa, 22, of Danbury, was arrested at 11:25 pm September 12 on the charges of illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and failure to drive upon the right. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of September 27 in Danbury Superior Court.
Following Too Closely
Newtown Police report Marissa Tozzi, 27, of Hamden, operating a 2012 Hyundai Sonata, was traveling northbound on Mt Pleasant Road near its intersection with The Old Road at 8:52 pm September 13. Traffic was stopped for a utility truck; however, Tozzi did not stop in time and impacted the back end of a 2017 Volkswagen Golf operated by Dorcas Eshun, 47, of Southbury, which then was pushed into a 2011 Audi Q5 operated by Steven Trinkaus, 65, of Southbury.
No injuries were reported. No vehicles were towed.
Tozzi was issued an infraction for following too closely.
Hit Car, Then Dumpster
Newtown Police report Tibor Bedo, 74, of Monroe, operating a 2001 Audi A6, was attempting to pull into a marked parking spot at 228 South Main Street at 3:38 pm September 13. Bedo told police he was unable to stop due to an unknown mechanical issue and the front driver’s side bumper of his vehicle hit the rear passenger’s side of an unoccupied 2021 Jeep Cherokee owned by Chrysler Capital Auto Lease. Bedo’s vehicle continued to move, then striking the side of a garbage dumpster.
No injuries were reported.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Both Drivers Verbally Warned
Newtown Police report Tina Skalkos, 57, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2012 Cadillac CTS, was traveling southbound on Aunt Park Lane at 1:46 pm September 15. Dawn-Marie Looney, 54, of New Milford, operating a 2020 Ford F150 Supercrew with a horse trailer attached, was traveling northbound on Aunt Park Lane. Skalkos told police that Looney was traveling downhill at a high rate of speed and the trailer struck the driver’s side front fender of her vehicle as the two passed each other. Looney told police that Skalkos’s vehicle was traveling in the center of the unstriped road.
Both vehicles sustained minor damage. No injuries were reported.
Skakos was given a verbal warning for failure to keep right. Looney was given a verbal warning for traveling unreasonably fast.
Found Damage To Car
Newtown Police report Deborah Jantz-Sell, 74, of Fairfield, operating a 2001 Lexus ES 300, was parking in a marked parking spot in a lot at 99 South Main Street at 2:09 pm September 15. Rene Rodriguez, 19, of New Milford, told police that when he returned to his vehicle, a 2008 Honda CR-V, he found that Jantz-Sell’s vehicle was over the lines marking the spots and had hit his rear bumper. Jantz-Sell denied striking the vehicle but admitted to being parked over the white lines denoting the parking spot.
There was minor damage to both vehicles. No injuries were reported.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Jantz-Sell was found to not be carrying up-to-date insurance for her vehicle.
Equinox Vs Tucson
Newtown Police report Sean McCafferty, 25, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox, was stopped in traffic on Main Street at the flagpole at 4:29 pm September 15. He was behind a 2019 Hyundai Tucson operated by Teresa Morais, 50, of Southbury. McCafferty proceeded forward and the front on his vehicle struck the rear bumper of Morais’s vehicle.
No vehicles were towed. No injuries were reported.
McCafferty was issued a verbal warning for following too closely resulting in an accident.
Blinded By The Light
Newtown Police report Aquitania Illas, 34, of Southbury, operating a 2012 Nissan Altima, was traveling on Toddy Hill Road at 9:22 am September 16. She was behind a 2012 GMC Terrain operated by Richard Cooke, 83, of Sandy Hook.
Cooke slowed down and then stopped, to make a left turn onto Still Hill Road. Illas told police she did not see this due to glare from the sun and the front of her vehicle struck the rear of Cooke’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Minor damage was done to both vehicles.
The report does not mention if any enforcement action was taken.
Failure To Appear
Newtown Police report Kevin Crisp, 29, of Woodbury, was arrested at 11 am September 16 on the charge of second-degree failure to appear. He was held on a $10,000 bond with a court date later that day in Danbury Superior Court.
Semi Hits Two Cars
Newtown Police report Araujo Welber, 43, of Danbury, operating an International tractor trailer pulling a semi-trailer, was in the driveway of 182 South Main Street at 8:45 am September 19. An unoccupied 2008 Chevrolet Silverado owned by Robert Tredennick and an unoccupied 2013 Nissan Maxima owned by Kevin McGettigan were parked in tandem along the driveway. While backing, the passenger side, front mud flap area of the semi-trailer made contact with the front of Tredennick’s vehicle, which was also pushed into McGettigan’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
