Golden Opportunities Director of Special Programs Susan Callaghan, Director of Operations Neil Callaghan and Founder/Executive Director Knettie Archard led the way when it came to dressing for Retro Fest on September 17 at Nunnawauk Meadows. The trio, along with additional GO board members, arranged for live music, trivia games, light refreshments, and dinner during the 2½-hour event. Golden Opportunities is a Sandy Hook-based nonprofit organization devoted to improving the quality of life for the elderly, primarily those residing in eldercare and retirement facilities.

Jayne Turner wasn’t able to find a ride to Woodstock last week, but she did find her way to the Community Building at Nunnawauk Meadows for Retro Fest. Other attendees were seen wearing some very big bell bottom pants, summer hats, and even a flapper-style headband.
Golden Opportunities hosted a special Retro Fest program at Nunnawauk Meadows last week, when residents were invited to dress in the style of their favorite era for some dinner, dancing, and live entertainment. The VonZells provided the entertainment, performing music from the 40s to the 70s. From left are band members Kevin McDonough, Sue Leonard and Dick Hetrick, performing their pre-dinner set. The September 17 event also included a roast beef dinner, a trivia game, and more dancing. Nunnawauk Meadows Executive Director Linda Manganaro said “the whole dance floor was filled” after dinner. “Everyone stayed for what I could see,” she said, adding that the event was “spaced out nice with some music, appetizers, dinner, dancing, dessert, and then cash prizes. I guess people did not want to miss anything.”
