DUI Warrant
Police report that after learning that they held a warrant for his arrest, Thomas Santaniello, 20, of 2 Fox Hollow Lane, went to the police station about 6 pm on September 19 and was charged with four offenses in connection with a motor vehicle accident that occurred in Sandy Hook on the night of December 13, 2012.
The charges stem from a one-vehicle rollover accident that took place near the intersection of Riverside Road and Philo Curtis Road, according to police. Santaniello was driving a 2007 Nissan Murano SUV in that crash.
Police have said that Santaniello was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries following that accident.
Police said they charged Santaniello on September 19 with driving under the influence while under age 21, evading responsibility, failure to drive to the right, and driving with a suspended license.
Following processing, police released Santaniello on September 19 on $100 bail for an October 3 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Three Vehicles
An accident involving three vehicles occurred on Berkshire Road, near Wasserman Way, about 4:30 pm on September 19, police said.
All three vehicles were traveling eastward on Berkshire Road during the evening rush when the mishap occurred.
Police said that motorist Jeffrey Weston, 50, of Trumbull, who was diving a 2013 Ford Escape SUV, struck the rear end of a 2012 Honda Civic coupe driven by Kyle Darrah, 25, of Guilford, thus pushing the Honda into the rear end of a 2009 Mazda 3 sedan that was driven by Rosemary Caluori, 52, of Ansonia.
There were no injuries. Police report they issued Weston a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Tool Theft
Police said they are investigating the theft of a power weed trimmer from a Poverty Hollow Road property near the intersection of Farm Meadow Road. Police received a report about the missing power tool about 5:30 pm on September 18. Police ask anyone with knowledge about the theft to contact investigating Officer Steven Siecienski at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.
Sedan Vs Minivan
Police report they responded to a two-vehicle accident that occurred about 5:20 pm on September 19 on Gray’s Plain Road.
In that collision, motorist Brian Engelke, 32, of 9 Gray’s Plain Road, who was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima sedan, sideswiped a 2012 Toyota Sienna minivan driven by motorist Ann Stramel Sandercox, 46, of 40 Yogananda Street, according to police.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Engelke a written warning for failure to drive to the right.
South Main Street
A two-vehicle accident took place on South Main Street, near its intersection with Greenbriar Lane, about 3:50 pm on September 20.
Police report that motorist Hildegard Jorgensen, 77, of Lanham, Md., who was driving a 2012 Honda CRV SUV southward on South Main Street, came to a stop due to traffic conditions, after which the Honda was struck from behind by southbound motorist Edson Moraes, 56, of Danbury, who was driving a 2001 Isuzu box truck.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Moraes a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Highway Accident
State police said motorist Florian Idenburg, 37, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was driving a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo SUV westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, at about 5:30 pm on September 22, when he fell asleep at the wheel, drifter to the left and then collided with the median guardrail.
Neither Idenburg, nor three passengers, were injured, state police said. Idenburg received an infraction for failure to drive in the established lane, according to state police.
Corvette Crash
Motorist Frank Salvatore, 72, of Danbury was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Corvette sports car westward on Interstate 84 near the Rochambeau Bridge at about 8:40 pm on September 20, when traffic slowed and then shifted lanes on the narrowed highway due to the presence of a construction zone, state police said.
Salvatore swerved, lost control of the auto and then spun out, striking some guardcabling, state police said.
Salvatore was checked by Southbury ambulance staffers, bur refused transport, state police said. There was no enforcement.
Interstate Collision
State police report a two-vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, about 11 pm on September 18.
In that incident, a 2013 Kenworth truck driven by Wayne Shupe, 67, collided with a 2013 Honda Civic driven by Christina Bekhet, 23, of Waterbury, state police said.
The impact caused the Honda to spin out and land on the grassy median, state police said. There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
Rear-Ender
At about 8:12 am on September 17, motorist Aurea Salazar, 51, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, slowed for traffic conditions on westbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, and was then struck from behind by westbound motorist Cristina Agosto, 18, of 29 Lyrical Lane, who was driving a 2000 Volkswagen Passat, state police report.
There were no injuries. Agosto received an infraction for following too closely, state police said.
Truck Vs Truck
State police report an accident involving two trucks on westbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, about 12:38 pm on September 16.
In that mishap, trucker Jeffrey Laxton, 50, of Morrisville, Penn., who was driving a 2010 International, attempted to change travel lanes and collided with trucker Joshua Tanner, 26, of Warren, who was driving a 2006 Kenworth, state police said.
There were no injuries. Laxton failed to drive in the established lane, according to state police.
Roof Hit
Police report that trucker Erickson Geronimo, 25, of Wethersfield was driving a 2004 Volvo tractor-trailer truck southward on Glen Road at about 11:30 am on September 23, and then pulled over to the right to park the truck, but the top of its trailer struck an overhanging roof on a building at 1 Glen Road.
There were no injuries, Police said they gave Geronimo a written warning.
Chevy Vs Chevy
At about noon on September 21, motorist Ronald Highhouse, 74, of Callicoon, N.Y., was driving a 2002 Chevrolet SUV westward on Berkshire Road, near Toddy Hill Road, as motorist Christina Nero, 24, of Hamden was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox SUV eastward on Berkshire Road, police report.
Nero’s vehicle then struck Highhouse’s vehicle, police said. There were no injuries. Nero received a written warning for failure to drive to the right, police said.
Wet Roadway
Motorist Stephanie Esplin, 21, of Southbury was driving a 2008 Chevrolet coupe westward on Wasserman Way, near Mile Hill Road South, on wet pavement about 2:35 pm on September 21, when she lost control of the auto and spun around, striking a traffic sign on the right side of the road before coming to rest facing eastward, police said.
Esplin was not injured. Esplin received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions, according to police.
Hawleyville Collision
A two-vehicle accident occurred at the hazardous intersection of Taunton Lane and Mt Pleasant Road about 3 pm on September 21.
The accident involved motorist Jeffrey Wilkins, 60, of 27 Taunton Lane, who was driving a 2006 BMW 325-XI northward on Taunton Lane, and motorist James Fisher, 54, of 11 Mt Pleasant Road, who was driving a 1997 Honda Civic sedan eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said they gave Wilkins a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign after having made a stop.
Berkshire Road
Police report an accident in which the two vehicles involved did not make contact with each other at about 1 pm on September 21 on westbound Berkshire Road, east of Wasserman Way.
Police said motorist Matthew Wielebinski, 19, of 24 Beechwood Drive, who was driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata sedan, swerved in order to avoid striking motorist Norberto Martinez, Jr, 54, of Stratford, who was driving a 1998 Ford Contour sedan.
The Hyundai did not hit the Ford, but the Hyundai struck some curbing along westbound Berkshire Road, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Wielebinski for passing on the right and they verbally warned Martinez for unsafe movement.
Intersection Collision
A two-vehicle accident occurred at the four-way intersection of Church Hill Road, Washington Avenue, Riverside Road, and Glen Road about 7:50 pm on September 17.
The accident involved motorist James Bernier, 43, of Somers, who was driving a 1998 Honda Accord sedan eastward on Church Hill Road and who was attempting to turn left onto Glen Road, and motorist Matthew Frost, 18, of 30 Brookwood Drive, who was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee SUV westward on Riverside Road and who was attempting to go straight onto Church Hill Road, police said.
There were no injuries. Bernier received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way, according to police.
