Susan Gabert

Susan Gabert. 93, of Newtown, died September 18 in Ashlar of Newtown.

She was the wife of the late Louis Gabert and the late John Grimardi.

Mrs Gabert is survived by her daughter, Marianne Muskus of Newtown; her son, Joseph Grimardi and his wife, Carla, of Brewster, N.Y.; two sisters, Mary DeSilvio and Angelina Cusimano, both of Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and many family members located throughout the United States. She was predeceased by a grandson, Kevin McCarthy.

Mrs Gabert was born in Mt Vernon, N.Y., July 25, 1910, a daughter of the late Dominic and Marianne Tanzilli. She was a resident of Chicago, Ill., where she lived with her first husband, John Grimardi. She returned to Mt Vernon and was a longtime resident and business owner.

Mrs Gabert lived in Mt Vernon until moving to Newtown with her second husband, Louis Gabert.

In 1985, she and her husband retired to Bradenton, Fla., until Mr Gabert’s death in 1988 when she returned to Newtown, residing at Nunnawauk Meadows to be near her family.

Mrs Gabert was a successful hairdresser and owned her own business in Bronxville, N.Y., for many years. Her beauty salon was well-known and patronized by many famous celebrities who became her regular clients. She was loved and treated with the utmost of respect.

Her expertise in her field, her attentiveness, and genteel manner were some of the contributing factors to her success. She was a great lady and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services were held September 22 at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, and at St Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment was in Resurrection Cemetery.
