St Rose Supports Walkathon Participation

For the second consecutive year, St Rose is planning to participate in the 13th annual region-wide Catholic school walkathon, with hopes of raising $15,000 — 75 percent of which will be put toward building a new gym for St Rose students.

The remaining 25 percent will go to the Connecticut Federation of Catholic School Parents, an organization that lobbies and defends the rights of Catholic school parents.

In order to make the goal a reality, each student in grades K–8 are encouraged to raise $60, pre-K students $30. Students in grades K–8 will be entitled to a “Dress Down Day” for ever $15 they raise toward their goal.

Students are reminded that they can still raise money for the event, even if they are unable to attend the actual walkathon. There are three ways to achieve the goal:

T Shirt Business Sponsors — This is the quickest and easiest way to achieve the goal! Stores, organizations, companies, doctors or any other business can become sponsors with a minimum donation of $40. The 2003 Walkathon T-shirt will list all business sponsors alphabetically on the back. Last year, over 100 businesses, including My Place Restaurant, Newtown Florist, Newtown Pools and Newtown Pizza Palace, were sponsors! One business, Bill’s Country Store, was located in Killington, Vermont! T-Shirt sponsor forms must be turned in by October 3.

Mass Collection — The weekend of October 4 has been set aside for St Rose students to collect for the Walkathon after all masses. The money collected will be divided evenly among those students who “worked” that weekend. More information will be available soon.

Obtain Individual Pledge — The money needs to be collected when the pledge is made, not after the walk. Please be careful and make sure a responsible adult is with you when you are obtaining pledges.

Turn In Procedure: All money collected along with any business sponsorships you’ve received should be placed in an envelope and returned to school Fridays in this plastic family packet envelope. Please clearly make the envelope “Walkathon” and include your name and grade!

The deadline for T-Shirt Business Sponsor Forms is October 3. All other pledges must be received by October 17.

The St Rose Walkathon will take place October 19 between 2 and 6 pm.
