Newcomers Launch New Year

On Thursday, October 2, the Newtown Newcomers’ Club will hold its monthly hospitality coffee followed by its board meeting beginning at 7 pm in the lower level of the Meeting House on Main Street at the flagpole.

Any resident of Newtown who would like to learn more about the programs and activities offered by the Newcomers’ Club is encouraged to attend. It is not a requirement that one be new in town to join the Newtown Newcomers’ Club.

The club held its annual kickoff last week to generate new membership. Despite the weather and other scheduled meetings in town, quite a few women showed up at the Alexandria Room in Town Hall to learn about what the Newcomers’ Club has to offer.

Club members present at the kickoff explained how to get involved in these different activities including book clubs, dining out club, children’s playgroups, and Mom’s night out. The Newcomers’ Club also offers special programs throughout the year such as the Hayride and Bonfire at Paproski’s Farm planned for October 4 at 6:30 pm, and a Night of Beauty at Ricci’s Salon.

Members of the new board of the Newcomers’ Club were there to greet people as they came in. Snacks were served and six door prizes were given away.

The Newtown Newcomers’ Club allows potential members to attend up to three activities before joining the club. The club also has a “buddy system” so potential members can attend activities with a current member.

Any resident of Newtown who wishes to find out more about the club is encouraged to attend one of the monthly hospitality coffees or speak with any member. Co-presidents Nancy Obremski can be reached at 364-0597 and Helen Benson can be reached at 426-3383.
