Funny Cide is not only the 2003 Kentucky Derby winner, but now is an honorary member of the Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard herd.
A military ceremony in troop formation was held Thursday, October 2, at the horse guard facilities on the campus of Fairfield Hills. Connecticut resident and co-owner of Funny Cide, David Mahan, was on hand to receive the award.
Like all of the horses in the troop, Funny Cide is a Bay gelding. There are some retired thoroughbreds in the Troopâs herd as well (most of the horses in the herd have been donated to the Troop over the years from Connecticut residents). The troop felt a need to acknowledge and to congratulate Funny Cide in a significant event.
