Diocese To Celebrate Golden Jubilee Mass
BRIDGEPORT ââ An estimated 9,000 Catholics from Fairfield County are expected to assemble in the Arena at Harbor Yard on Sunday, September 28, at 2 pm, for the Golden Jubilee Mass, led by Bishop William E. Lori, celebrating the 50-year history of the Diocese of Bridgeport.
Two years in the planning, the mass is the centerpiece of a 15-month celebration of the dioceseâs Golden Jubilee. A procession of 200 banners will open the mass in a colorful display of the diversity of the diocese, which includes 87 parishes, Catholic schools, Catholic Charities, and ethnic organizations.
During the mass, prayer petitions will be offered in 16 languages to reflect the diversity. Hymns of praise will be sung by 11 choirs, including a Childrenâs Choir and several ethnic choir.
Cardinal Edward M. Egan of New York, who served as bishop of the Bridgeport diocese from 1988 to 2000, will be among those who will attend.
The mass is scheduled to conclude by 5 pm.
