Apply For Scholarships Today!

The Career Center at Newtown High School presents the following list of national scholarships currently available for college-bound students. Please note that some of these scholarships request money to be sent with the scholarship application.

The Career Center automatically advertises all scholarships received in the mail. To verify the legitimacy of the scholarship, the Career Center strongly suggests that potential applicants contact the FTC Consumer Response Center at 877-382-4357, www.ftc.gov, the National Fraud Information Center at 800-876-7060, www.fraud.org, or the Better Business Bureau at 703-276-0100, www.bbb.org.

Dental Associates Scholarship — One Newtown High School senior pursuing a career in any health related field has the opportunity to win a $1,000 scholarship from Dental Associates in Danbury. Applications should be sent directly to Thom Goracy, practice administrator, Dental Associates, 36 Pandanaram Road, Danbury, CT 06881. For more information, contact Mr Goracy at 748-5717.

2004 Guardian Life Insurance Company Girls Going Places College Scholarship –– These annual scholarships are for girls 12–16 who demonstrates budding entrepreneurial ship, taking first steps toward financial independence and are making a difference in their schools and communities. Three top prizes are $10,000, $5,000, and $3,000 with 12 $1,000 prizes. Nomination forms are due to Guardian Life by February 27, 2004. Visit www.girlsgoingplaces.com for complete rules.

Ultimate Talent Search, Embassy Music of Nashville, Tenn. –– A new artist and song search will be held at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville with $50,000 in prizes. Visit www.embassymusic.com for more information. Embassy Music must receive all registrations by October 24.

Barton L. Weller Scholarship 2003–-2004 –– A $12,000 scholarship designed to encourage independent study or research for any full-time senior attending Newtown, Masuk, Shelton, Trumbull, or Joel Barlow high schools. Participants must complete a five-month original independent research or study project. Project proposals should be mailed directly to the Weller Foundation by October 31.
