An Evening Of Fun, Relaxing Entertainment For Women
WATERBURY â Women of all ages with a zest for life are invited to âFor Divas Only: âThe Insatiable Womanâs Guide to Life,ââ with author and humorist Regina Barreca. The program will be held on Thursday, October 16, beginning at 7 pm. It will be at The Mattatuck Museum. The evening will be a benefit for Waterbury Youth Services, Inc.
Already hailed as âsmart and funnyâ by People magazine, Ms Barrecaâs latest title, the soon-to-be-released The ABCâs of Vice: An Insatiable Womanâs Guide, which she co-authored with Nicole Hollander (the creator of the syndicated âSylviaâ cartoon strip), is a half text, half cartoon tongue in cheek manual of the mischievous âbad girlâ behaviors familiar to all women.
Dr Barrecaâs inimitable sense of humor strikes a familiar chord, particularly with female audiences, and is what has made her such a popular guest during several appearances on Oprah, as well as during appearances on ABCâs 20/20 program.
She is a prolific writer with many other books and publications to her credit and is a humorous and engaging speaker.
Dr Barreca is a professor of English literature and feminist theory at the University of Connecticut, a columnist for The Hartford Courant, and the celebrated author of They Used to Call Me Snow White But I Drifted: Womenâs Strategic Uses of Humor (1991) and Perfect Husbands & Other Fairy Tales: Demystifying Marriage, Men & Romance (1993), and last yearâs Donât Tell Mama: The Penguin Book of Italian American Writing, an anthology of the literary contributions of Italian-Americans.
âFor Divas Onlyâ is designed to be a fun, relaxing evening, for women of all ages, and will include Dr Barrecaâs presentation, delectable finger foods and desserts, coffee and a cash bar. Tickets are $45 per person and can be obtained by calling Waterbury Youth Services at 203-573-0264.
