Alzheimer's Support Program Starting
Alzheimerâs Support Program Starting
SOUTHBURY â Brownstein Jewish Family Service of the Federation-Jewish Communities of Western Connecticut is partnering with the Connecticut Chapter of the Alzheimerâs Association on a new program in this part of the state.
The Journeys Program is designed to provide education and support for both the caregiver and the individual with early stage Alzheimerâs disease.
The purpose of the group is to assist caregivers and individuals with Alzheimerâs disease to understand the disease process and receive support from others in similar situations.
This free program will begin October 2 and run for eight consecutive Thursdays. The sessions will be held at the Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus, 444 Main Street North, from 2 to 4 pm.
Group leaders stress that it is important that the participants of the group are able to meet for all eight weeks.
Every session will include four key components: education on Alzheimerâs disease or related disorders; information on support and coping mechanisms; group discussions on driving, safety, and communicating; and interactive group programming.
Individuals with early stage Alzheimerâs disease must have a physician diagnosis of Alzheimerâs disease or dementia; must be aware of their diagnosis; and be able to communicate a feel comfortable participating in a group.
