International Artistsâ Work At Roxbury Library
ROXBURY â An exhibit and sale of paintings by the internationally renowned artist Plonia Nixon is on view at Minor Memorial Library until November 7. The show includes examples of her watercolors, collages, pastels, acrylics and graphics.
A resident of New Fairfield, much of Ms Nixonâs work reflects her Dutch heritage and the influence of 17th Century painters in Holland. Born and raised in the Netherlands where she studied and taught art for many years, Plonia Van Der Hoeven Nixon moved to New York City with her husband in 1971 and eventually settled in New Fairfield, where she maintains a studio where she works and teaches. She is also an adjunct professor at Western Connecticut State University.
Ms Nixon has exhibited her work in European countries, New York City and throughout the northeast US..
One of the judges at the HAL show summed up her impression of Nixonâs work in saying: âPlonia carries the style of Old World masters. Her chiaroscuro is exquisite, and her use of frame shows the care she takes with every part of her work.â
