Danbury Hospital To Unveil Newly Renovated Patient Rooms
DANBURY â Danbury Hospital will soon unveil its first phase of newly renovated patient rooms. The renovation is part of the hospitalâs overall five-year plan to upgrade its interior décor and to reconfigure the layout of work areas to increase efficiency for nurses, physicians, and all other support staff.
âThe patient rooms in the Tower Building of the Hospital were built about 20 years ago, so weâre due for a facelift,â said Morris Gross, vice president of Danbury Health systems, parent of Danbury Hospital.
The adult surgery unit on the west wing of the 10th floor is the first to undergo renovation. While the unit moves from the 11th floor to the 10th floor later this fall, the rooms will be totally renovated, including new wallpaper, window treatments, cabinetry, and patient room furniture. In addition, the unit will have more private rooms than ever before, going from four to 10.
âWeâre making our rooms more friendly,â said Mr Gross. âWe want it to look more like a home or a hotel and less like a hospital.â
In addition, the unit will provide the hospitalâs first guest suite, a private room that includes an adjacent waiting room with desk and pull-out couch, and a kitchenette with microwave and small refrigerator. The suite, a new concept for Danbury Hospital, will allow families to join patients by spending time during the day and styling overnight. The suite is also powered for a fax machine and e-mail access so patients who are feeling up to it can conduct business if necessary. The renovation is expected to be complete by late November.
