Snapshot: Tara Tomaselli
Occupation: I’m a fine art photographer with previous work experience in arts administration, art education, and museum education. I have a lot of my photos on my website, www.tomaselliphoto.com. Currently, I have an exhibit at Visual Impact in Danbury, and I’ll be in a show at Danbury City Hall toward the end of the year.
Family: I’m from Pound Ridge, N.Y., where my parents still live. I have a sister, Christina, who lives in Oregon.
Pets: I’m stepmom to Baron. He’s a Papillon spaniel, and spoiled rotten.
How long have you lived here? I’ve lived in Hawleyville since December of 2013.
What do you like to do in your free time? As a photographer, I go “rust hunting” for treasures to photograph. I like antiquing and genealogy, and watching the History Channel. I collect antique lanterns, bottles, and tins.
Do you have a favorite artist? Primarily American 20th Century artists. Edward Hopper, Rockwell Kent, and Maurice Sendak would be my top three.
Have you discovered anything interesting in researching your family? I learned I had ancestors who worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. It’s a neat connection, since I like collecting railroad lanterns and I love transportation history.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? My top three are Maine, Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Italy.
What is the best thing about Newtown? I like the quiet and the nature here. It’s a nice community to live in. There’s a lot of history, but I don’t know it yet.
Who has been the greatest influence in your life? A lot of people from my life — family, friends, different job situations — have influenced me, and in particular, one of my grandmas. She was an artist and kind of a modern lady. She was an independent woman for her time.
Did you have a favorite toy, growing up? The Snoopy Sno-Cone Machine, stuffed penguins, and my Cabbage Patch kid. I don’t have the Sno-Cone machine anymore, but I do still collect penguins and have my Cabbage Patch doll.
Do you have a guilty pleasure? Gelato. Talenti hazelnut chocolate chip is my favorite.
