Students and school faculty and staff began to assemble on the lawn behind Fraser Woods Montessori School just before 11 am on Friday, September 19, to continue a worldwide acknowledgement of this year’s International Day of Peace.

Before the younger grades were brought outside, middle school-aged students began forming a large circle, holding flags with “World Peace” written on them.

The event is a tradition at the school ant at Montessori schools around the world.

The group was in place, holding hands, and ready for 11 am, when Fraser Woods Montessori School was slated to sing, “Light a Candle for Peace.” Other Montessori schools around the world also sang the song at different allotted times so the song would be sung continuously for 24 hours.

Fraser Woods Montessori School’s Yun-Kyung Kim lead the group in singing the song.

“Light a candle for peace, light a candle for love,” the school sang. “Light a candle that shines all the way around the world. Light a candle for me, light a candle for you, that our wish for world peace will one day come true.”

The school sang the song a number of times before returning inside for the remainder of the school day.
