Honda Down Bank

Police report that at about 11:30 am on September 9, motorist Claudio Yanza, 21, of Danbury was driving a 1993 Honda Civic sedan on Hawleyville Road, near its intersection with Covered Bridge Road, when the vehicle apparently shut down and Yanza lost control of the auto.

The Honda then went across the opposite side of the road and then traveled down an embankment, police said.

Yanza was not injured, according to police. Yanza received an infraction on charges of failure to drive to the right and driving without a license, police report.

Lunchbox Found

Police are seeking the owner of a lunchbox that was found late on the morning of September 17 near the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Saw Mill Road. The item is described as soft-sided with fabric and vinyl panels. The Artic Zone-brand item is black and decorated with orange/yellow flames. The owner should contact police at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841, to claim the item.

Vandalism

Police are investigating incidents of vandalism to several residential mailboxes and to a parked vehicle in the area of Walnut Tree Hill Road, Old Green Road, and Horseshoe Ridge Road that occurred on late September 5 or early September 6.

People with information about who committed the third-degree vandalism are asked to contact Officer Michael McGowan at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.

Two Men Charged

While patrolling the parking lot at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints at 16 Saw Mill Road early on the morning of September 19, police said they found two men in the rear parking lot, so they investigated.

Police said the men fled into a wooded area nearby. Police said that after apprehending the two men, they charged each man with simple trespassing, interfering with police, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Charged with those offenses were: Andrew Eriquez, 21, of 3 Hawthorne Hill Road, and Charles Pfeiffer, 20, of Kissimmee, Fla., police report. Police said they released each man on a written promise to appear October 1 in Danbury Superior Court.

Cadillac Stopped

While on patrol about 2:19 pm September 16, police report that they spotted motorist Nicole Cain, 22, of 30 Plumtrees Road drive a 2001 Cadillac past a stop sign at the intersection of Great Hill Road and Taunton Hill Road, so they stopped her to investigate.

Police said they charged Cain with failure to obey a stop sign, driving with a suspended license, and driving an unregistered motor vehicle. Police released Cain on $250 bail for an October 1 court appearance.

Supermarket Theft

Police report that at about 2:48 pm September 2, an unknown male entered Caraluzzi’s Newtown Market at 5 Queen Street after which he left the supermarket with some merchandise without paying for it. Officer John McCluskey is investigating the case of sixth-degree larceny. Police ask anyone with information on the unknown man’s identity to contact Officer McCluskey at 426-5841.

Mile Hill/Queen

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Queen Street and Mile Hill Road about 12:05 pm September 9.

Motorist Jamie Murphy, 35, of 4 Benjamin Drive was driving a 2007 Ford Explorer westward on Mile Hill Road, according to police. At that time, motorist Viola Sanford, 83, of Nunnawauk Meadows, Nunnawauk Road, who was driving a 2000 Buick Century sedan, was attempting to make a left turn from southbound Queen Street onto eastbound Mile Hill Road, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police issued Sanford a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Mile Hill Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident on westbound Mile Hill Road, near its intersection with Tinkerfield Road, about 3:12 pm September 18.

The collision involved motorist Muschett Denzil, 65, of Danbury, who was driving a commercial 2002 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, and motorist John Della Camera, 56, of Oakville, who was driving a 2009 Pontiac G-6 convertible, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Denzil a written warning for passing on the right.

SUV Vs Sedan

About 4:32 pm on September 11, motorist Anne Morris, 77, of Southbury, who was driving a 2002 Honda Civic sedan northward on Main Street, signaled and slowed in preparing to turn left onto the Edmond Town Hall property at 45 Main Street, police said.

Northbound motorist Glen Tatgenhorst, 60, of Ridgefield, who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV, then struck the Honda from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Tatgenhorst for following too closely.

Nunnawauk Road

A convertible and a dump truck collided on Nunnawauk Road about 7:53 am September 17, police report.

Motorist Darren Cacace, 36, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2002 Acura RL convertible, was traveling behind a dump truck driven by Cristovao Lameria, 49, of Bethel, police said.

The Acura started to pass the dump truck on the truck’s left side, but the truck then attempted to make a left turn, resulting in a collision, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police issued Cacace a written warning for unsafe passing. Police gave Lameria a written warning for failure to signal for a left turn.

Church Hill Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident near 62 Church Hill Road about 1:43 pm September 17.

In that incident, motorist Felix Rosbergen, 31, of Bethel, who was driving a 2003 Toyota 4-Runner SUV, struck the rear end of a 1994 Mazda 626 sedan driven by Paul Ouellette, 41, of Woodbury, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Ouellette to Danbury Hospital to be checked for a report of pain, police said. Police issued Rosbergen an infraction for following too closely.

Pickup Vs Pickup

Motorist Thomas Kokinchak, 46, of Southbury, who was driving a 2003 Nissan Frontier pickup truck eastward on Sugar Street near Elm Drive, slowed for traffic conditions at about 4:57 pm September 17, after which the Nissan was struck from behind by eastbound motorist James Redinger, 51, of Southbury, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Redinger an infraction listing charges of following too closely and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Rear-Ender

Motorist Donald Romaniello, 54, of Easton who was driving a 2008 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck northward on South Main Street on the afternoon of September 3, stopped at that street’s intersection with Botsford Hill Road and Meadow Brook Road, police said. The Honda was then struck from behind by motorist John Danehy, 42, of New Haven, who was driving a 2003 Lexus ES-300 sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Danehy for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Parking Lot

Police report a two-vehicle collision in the parking lot at Ferris Acres Creamery at 144 Sugar Street at about 7:53 pm September 5. The collision involved motorist Peter Hylenski, 64, of Danbury, who was driving a 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-320, and motorcyclist Robert Torres, 51, of Shelton, who was driving a 2004 Harley-Davidson FLSTFI, according to police. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

I-84 Collision

About 5:46 pm September 18, motorist Chan Khvang, 52, of Danbury, who was driving a 2008 Toyota RAV-4 eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Toyota was hit from behind by motorist Lark Blatchley, 57, of Seymour, who was driving a 1997 Toyota Avalon, state police said.

Both motorists reported pain, but neither person was transported for medical care, according to state police. Blatchley was following too closely, state police said.

Highway Crash

About 4:57 pm September 18, motorist Hilda Kasper, 87, of Southbury, who was driving a 1994 Honda Civic in the right lane of eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, attempted to merge to the left but collided with a 2007 Chevrolet commercial truck being driven in the highway’s center lane by Larry Wilson, 53, of Wallingford, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said Kasper made an unsafe lane change.

South Main DUI

Police report that they saw motorist Geraldo Filho, 42, of Danbury swerving over South Main Street’s center line about 9:25 pm on September 19, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they charged Filho with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, driving without a license, and with a travel lane violation.

After processing the case, police released Filho on $900 bail for an October 6 court appearance.

Turkey Hill

Motorist Nuno Pereira, Jr, 34, of Trumbull was driving a 2008 Ford F-350 pickup truck eastward on Turkey Hill Road and then drove into the road’s opposite lane before attempting to turn right toward the driveway at 26 Turkey Hill Road at about 5:41 pm September 18, police said.

At that time, motorist Michael Tuccio, 17, of 42 Turkey Hill Road was driving a 1994 Nissan Sentra sedan westward on Turkey Hill Road, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Pereira a written warning for failure to drive to the right. Police gave Tuccio a written warning for traveling too fast.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Theodore Bouzakis, 38, of New Milford went to the police station on September 10 and was charged with three offenses in connection with a July incident, police said.

Police charged Bouzakis with third-degree assault, breach of peace, and providing a false statement.

The charges stem from an altercation that occurred on July 29 in the parking lot of Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street. Police charged another man in the case immediately after the incident occurred.

Following processing, police released Bouzakis on $1,500 bail for a September 23 court appearance.

Possible Assault

Police said they are investigating what may have been an assault that occurred outdoors at 4 Berkshire Road, sometime between 9:30 and 11:10 pm on September 19. Anyone with information on the matter is asked to contact Officer Steven Siecienski at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.

NHS Drugs

Police report that a 17-year-old girl at Newtown High School was found to be illegally in possession of prescription medication there on the morning of September 21.

After investigating, police charged the girl with illegal possession of a controlled substance and with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following processing, police released the girl on a written promise to appear October 2 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. Because the person charged is under age 18, her identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.
