*âCrossroads: Classical To Contemporary Realism,â featuring pastel and oil paintings by Phyllis Acuzzo, is on view in the libraryâs lower meeting room until September 30.
*Opening next week will be âThe Life & Talent of Arthur A. Anderson,â an exhibition of photographs by the late Newtown resident that is being coordinated by friends and fellow members of Candlewood Photography Club.
The exhibition will be on view October 2-31, and the public is invited to join Candlewood club members for the opening reception on Sunday, October 4, from 2 to 4 pm.
*Also on view, upstairs, until October 23, is the annual exhibition of recent works by The Scrapbag Art Quilters.
âGray Plus Onâ is the result of a challenge to the quilters to use only one color in addition to grays their works.
Childrenâs Programs
*Musical Story Times with Fanfare Music Studio: Danielle Tusch, a certified music teacher and the director of a new music school for children in Newtown, will conduct two musical story times for children at the library.
The first will be on Wednesday, September 30, at 11 am, and is for children ages 1-2. The second will be Friday, October 2, at 4 pm, and is recommended for ages 3-6.

Young Adult Programs
*Mask & Wig Players, for grades 6 and up, meets on Tuesdays after school from 3 to 4:30 with Martha Bishop.
The groupâs first production will be for Halloween. Drop in and join us. No experience is necessary.
*Chess Club meets Saturday afternoons on the third floor with Glenn Budzinski.
Itâs for all ages and player levels, and boards and pieces are provided. Drop in and play chess from any Saturday between 1 and 5 pm.
*Creative Writing: Signups for Creative Writing â Poetry are also open online.
Liz Arneth will lead the five-week programs on Mondays, October 19 to November 16, from 6 to 8 pm each week.
The course is open to ten students in grades 6-8, with preference given to Newtown students and residents. Students are expected to attend all five sessions.
*Chess Lessons: Signups are open online for students ages 9-12 who would like to learn how to play chess from a master.
US Chess Federation Candidate Master Glenn Budzinski will offer free lessons. Sessions will meet on Thursdays from 6 to 7 pm, and will begin October 22. The lessons will run for five weeks, and are free.
Students must know the basic rules of the game and how to move the pieces, however.
Adult Programs
*Author Talk: So You Want To Go Where?
Jeff Blumenfeld, editor and publisher of Expedition News, will visit the library to discuss his latest book, So You Want to Go Where? How to Get Someone to Pay for the Trip of Your Dreams on Tuesday, September 22, at 7 pm.
*New Writing Group for Adults: Georgia Monaghan, writer and journalist is starting a group for writers at the library the fourth Monday of each month.
The first meeting will be September 28, from 7 to 9 pm. Call or visit online to register.
*Calling all Mets Fans: Local author Dana Brand will visit the library on Tuesday, September 29, at 7 pm, to discuss his latest book, The Last Days of Shea, Delight and Despair in the Life of a Mets Fan.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the talk.
*Behind the Crimes, a mystery discussion with CHBâs favorite professor, Julie Stern, will continue on September 30 with Tony Hillermanâs Skinwalkers.
Future discussions will concern Peter Hoegâs Smilaâs Sense of Snow on October 21 and then James Lee Burkeâs Dixie City Jam on November 4. Discussions begin at 7:30 pm, and online registration is requested.
*Video Sale: The adult department is busy discarding a number of VHS tapes, and all are available for $2 each.
