The Good News

After two days of constantly hearing the bad news coming from the TV this past week about the hijackings, our cat, Amber, gave us something happy to think about and make us feel good about the world.
It started at 2 am Friday when Amber kept bugging my sister by meowing and jumping on and off her bed. My sister, Laura, finally got annoyed because she wanted to sleep and it was a school night. Laura brought Amber to my parentâs room and told them that she was being a pest. Mom said, âLeave her here.â Dad said, âNo way.â My mom got her pillow and a blanket and went downstairs with Amber.
According to Mom, Laura was right. Amber was a pest. She was wandering and meowing and jumping on the couch with Mom for a short nap then jumping down and wandering and meowing around the house again. My mother said she was able to get some naps in for herself between cat visits, until 4:30 am.
During one of Momâs naps she woke up to a loud meowing followed by another. Mom jumped up and started to look around the house for Amber. Mom checked upstairs and all around downstairs, then she opened the basement door and found Amber on her way up the stairs, she was coming to Momâs call. As Mom patted Amber she heard a faint scratching and meowing coming from a cardboard box in the corner of the basement. Amber had a kitten!
Between 4:30 am and 6:15 am, Amber had three kittens. Two kittens are orange like her, and one is a dark striped. The kittens have given us something more to be thankful for in this scary and crazy world. As bad as everything is on the TV news, there is some good news that happens just naturally. The things that happen in other places are very important, for sure, and we need to be paying attention to them, but itâs nice to have three new kittens to be happy about at the same time.
