aMAIZEing MAZE â On Saturday, October 21, take a trip to Middletown and visit a four-acre corn maze. Besides being fun, it has an interactive, educational part to it that offers information about the state, mazes, and corn. There is a picnic area and concession stand. There are also two smaller mazes for children to enjoy after solving the aMAIZEing MAZE. Face painting, hay rides and more. Cost is $15. Trip leaves the Newtown Middle School at 11 am and returns about 4 pm.
MACYâS THANKSGIVING TURKEY SHOOT â On Thursday, November 23, leave the Southbury McDonaldâs at 6:30 am sharp to see the most exciting parade LIVE! The trip will return in time for dinner, at about 1:30 pm. Cost is $22.
RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS SHOW â On Saturday, November 26, take a trip to Radio City Music Hall in New York City. A coach bus will leave the Newtown Middle School at 8 am sharp for a 1 pm show, leaving plenty of time for sightseeing, shopping or lunch. The trip will return about 5:30 pm. Cost is $80.
CHRISTMAS SHOPPING IN THE BIG APPLE â Take the hassle out of driving to the city and forget about parking. Spend the day in New York City enjoying the sights, shopping, or going to the theater. The coach bus will pick up at the Newtown Middle School at 8 am on Saturday, December 9, and return about 7 pm. Cost is $20.

HALLOWEEN PARTY â For Newtown Middle School students only, a Halloween Party â with DJ â will be held Friday, October 27, from 7 to 10:30 pm. DJ Kevin Koschel will play the latest hits and give out prizes for dance contests, costume contests, and other fun games. Tickets will be available at the Rec office as well as at the school on Monday and Tuesday, October 23 and 24 ($5). There will be no tickets sold at the door.

LITTLE RECERS â A pre-school program that includes creative dramatics, arts & crafts, music and group play will be held Thursdays, from 9 to 11 am, starting October 12, at the Newtown Congregational Church house. Cost is $100 for 10 classes. Instructor is Kathy Murdy. Children must be three years old by December 31 and must be toilet trained. Please provide a snack. Class size is limited to 10.
JUDO â Christine Rinaldi (2nd degree black belt, member of the United States Judo Association) will teach an excellent self-defense technique without all that kicking and punching. The practice of judo builds strength and aerobic fitness while improving self-discipline, concentration, self-awareness, balance and coordination. Two four-week sessions ($30 each) will be held Thursdays, October 2 through October 26, and Thursdays, November 2 through November 30 (no class November 23). Classes will meet from 5 to 6 pm at Newtown High School. Open to anyone ages 5 to 14.
