Football Team Dominates New Milford, Set For Darien

Newtown High School’s football team kept its hold on the Boot Trophy with a 34-7 win over host New Milford on September 17. Quarterback Dylan Magazu rushed for a trio of touchdowns to lead the way.

Magazu scored on runs of 28, 29, and 61 yards, and also threw a touchdown pass to Matt Jacobs for a 51-yard score. Andrew Jacobs also got into the end zone with a four-yard run. Rich Guman made four extra point attempts.

The Nighthawks led 14-0 after one quarter, 27-0 at halftime, and 34-0 going to the fourth quarter. Magazu was 10-for-13 passing and compiled 142 yards through the air. Jake St Louis completed his only pass attempt for 12 yards. Magazu rushed seven times for 104 yards. Andrew Jacobs carried the ball 12 times for 60 yards, and J.J. Haddick rushed seven times for 37. Matt Jacobs had three catches for 72 yards.

On defense, Mark Sokk had eight tackles to go along with two interceptions, Jack Chappa had five solo tackles and was in on another, and Haddick had four tackles. Eric Gray had an interception.

The Nighthawks visit Darien on Friday, September 24, at 7 pm in a rematch of the 2019 Class LL state championship game, won by Newtown. The Nighthawks are home on Friday, October 1, when Ridgefield visits Blue & Gold Stadium at 7 pm.
