The Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) kicked off its 2nd Annual Choose Love Outdoor Concert Series on Saturday, September 19, with a performance by The Midlife Crisis at the Sandy Hook Village Green.

Band members performed hits like “Rock This Town,” “American Girl,” “Small Town,” and “Listen To The Music.”

Before the band kicked off, SHOP President Joe Hemingway said this is the second year of the Choose Love Outdoor Concert Series. Mr Hemingway also said Live Nation’s Jeff Wallace has done “a great job” making this year’s series come together.

“We’ve had amazing support from the sponsors and our church, First Baptist Church Branford,” said Mr Wallace before the show.

Sponsors for the concert showing included First Baptist Church Branford, SCB, Advisers Trust, Frontier, WEBE 108 Radio, Newtown Parks & Recreation, and PennGlobe.

The band performed under a new tent, according to Mr Hemingway. The tent had SHOP’s logo and the words, “Sandy Hook Village, a place within us all,” on it.

As the band performed, some event goers — like children Jessup Burton and Isaac and Andres St Georges — danced. Other attendees sat in provided chairs set up on the green, and others found space to lounge in the shade.

Joy Hoffman of The Joy of Art, Healing Newtown, also provided activities for children and adults under a second tent set up for the event.

The 2nd Annual Choose Love Outdoor Concert Series is scheduled to continue on Saturdays, September 26 and October 3. Each event, which runs from 1 to 3 pm, includes a free, outdoor seated musical performance, and tents with free arts, crafts and creative movement opportunities for children. Chairs are provided for concert attendees.

As released by SHOP, future performances will be country recording artist Tat Holler on September 26; and California Dreamers, performing music of The Mamas & The Papas, to close the series on October 3.

Event organizers describe Tat Holler as an up-and-coming country artist. He is a Connecticut resident and travels frequently to Nashville to write with some of the top musicians, writers, and producers in the business.

He has recently put a band together to bring his music to larger venues and crowds all over the East Coast, according to SHOP, and the band began in the Summer of 2013.

Tat Holler has recorded a few of his own original songs such as “Sweet Lil’ Tennessee,” “Let Me See That Tattoo,” “I Do,” “Overdrive,” “What About Us,” and “Let’s Truck,” according to SHOP, and he also has a professional music video for the hit single “Sweet Lil’ Tennesee,” which was created by Blackhole Films in October of 2013.

More information about SHOP and the series is available online at sandyhookvillage.com or on the SHOP Facebook page.
