NEW YORK CITY â The Bard Graduate Center will present a Study Day, âFrom Foundry to Parlor: Brass Production in 19th Century America,â on Friday, October 5, starting at P.E. Guerin, 23 Jane Street, at 10:30 am.
Beginning with a site visit to P.E. Guerin Inc, established in 1857 by French emigre Pierre Emmanuel Guerin, one of the pioneering foundries for artistic metalwork in New York, the program includes lunch followed by a lecture, âBrass: The Two-Faced Metal,â by decorative arts historian, Donald L. Fennimore who explores the historic significance and place of brass.
The program will conclude with a highlight tour of the Bardâs exhibition, âA Brass Menagerie: Metalwork of the Aesthetic Movement,â led by Fennimore. It is presented by The Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Design, and Culture.
