Salute To Girlhood Rite Of Passage Is Theme

Of Waterbury Youth Services Fundraiser

WATERBURY — What does one wear to a pajama party for grownup girls? That’s the buzz greater Waterbury area women are asking their gal pals as they prepare for what has to be one of the most tongue in cheeky themes for a fundraiser.

“Girls’ Night In: Gina Barreca’s Pajama Party For Grown-Up Girls,” a nostalgic tribute to a uniquely female rite of passage will benefit Waterbury Youth Services on Thursday, October 28. The event will run from 7 to 10 pm, at Villa Rosa/The Ponte Club, 380 Farmwood Road, Waterbury.

Dr Gina Barreca, the funny and celebrated author of They Used to Call Me Snow White But I Drifted: Women’s Strategic Uses of Humor and Perfect Husbands & Other Fairy Tales: Demystifying Marriage, Men & Romance and a professor of English Literature & Feminist Theory at the University of Connecticut, is making her third appearance on behalf of the social service organization that serves children, youth and families throughout greater Waterbury.

Hailed as “smart & funny” by People magazine, Dr Barreca’s dead-on humor keeps audiences laughing until they cry. Coupled with her engaging personality Dr Barreca’s lightening quick wit sizzles as she segues from one story to another, striking a familiar chord particularly among female audiences. It’s why she has been such a sought after speaker and television guest appearances on programs such as Oprah, Today and 20/20. She also writes a weekly column for The Hartford Courant, and has many other books and publications to her credit as both author and editor.

For those who are wondering if pajamas are truly the preferred dress code for Dr Barreca’s pajama party, the answer is an emphatic Yes. There are all styles of at home/loungewear/sleepwear attire that would fit the party’s theme perfectly. How to interpret that is up to the personal style of the individual.

Tickets are $45 per person and include hearty hors d’oeuvres, a make your own sundae bar, coffee and soda, and take home goodie bags. There will be a cash bar.
