TRAINING

U9/10 Pre-Travel Advanced Skill Training – The Newtown Soccer club will be offering advanced skills training sessions to those players that have a desire to develop their skills in addition to that of which is available at the recreational level. These clinics will be held on Saturday mornings from 8:30 to 10 am and will be run by Newtown High School boys’ soccer coach Brian Neumeyer.

The purpose of these training sessions is to give each player the opportunity to improve his or her soccer skills before tryouts the following year for U10/11 travel. These sessions should be seen as additional training on the weekend and not a reason for a player to miss his or her regular in-house game.

This program is open to those players born between August 1, 1995 and July 31, 1996. This program is also being offered to those players with birth dates born August 1, 1994 through July 31, 1995 that may have tried out for travel this year and were not selected, or for those who may wish to tryout for U11 in June of 2005.

As a note, at U11, four to six new players will be added to the current U10 travel team as the teams make the transition to the larger full-sided field. There will be no official games played other than those that are part of the training session. The fee for this training is $25 per player, per season, and checks should be made out to the Newtown Soccer club.

Currently there are plans on having sessions in the fall and spring but there may be sessions in the winter if space is available.

Each player should wear shin guards and bring a ball as well as water.

Currently there may be conflicts with the Girls ‘E’ Division and depending on enrollment there may be an additional day and/or time created for those players. Separate girls’ and boys’ sessions are also being considered. Sign up as soon as possible.
