HARTFORD (AP) âThe remnants of Hurricane Ivan dumped nearly three inches of rain in parts of Connecticut September 18 and its accompanying winds brought down limbs and trees leaving thousands in the dark for several hours.
The storm began as a hurricane in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico and barreled north as a tropical storm, soaking Connecticut and the Northeast. A record rainfall of 2.84 inches fell at Windsor Locks bringing the two-day total to 2.92 inches.
More than 17,000 electric customers were without power for parts of the day. By Saturday night, the figure dropped to under 8,000.
Ivan and its remnants were blamed for 43 deaths in the United States, 16 of them in Florida.
