Connecticut Audubon Society

To Hold Annual Meeting

FAIRFIELD –– Connecticut Audubon Society’s Fairfield Regional Centers will host the organization’s 2004 Annual Meeting on Saturday, October 2, at 2325 Burr Street.  The meeting is open to the public and will run from 11 am to 2:30 pm, rain or shine.

The Honorable Richard Blumenthal, Attorney General for the State of Connecticut, will deliver the keynote address at 12:30.  In addition to the business meeting and election of new board members, the annual Benchmark Award will be presented to a volunteer who has exhibited exemplary volunteer service on behalf of Connecticut Audubon Society (CAS).

Milan Bull, senior director of science and conservation, will conduct a tour of the Roy and Margot Larsen preserve located at the CAS Center at Fairfield.  The 152-acre sanctuary is home to a wide range of wildlife and comprises rolling woodlands, meadows, streams, marshes, and ponds with raised boardwalks and bridges, which allow access to the varied habitats.

Andy Grilz, curator of the Birdcraft Museum, will lead a tour of the museum located at 314 Unquowa Road, Fairfield.  Established in 1914 by CAS founder Mabel Osgood Wright, the Birdcraft Museum was recognized as a National Historic Landmark in 1993. This remarkable facility includes a natural history museum and an adjacent private songbird sanctuary.

Lunch is available to all attendees at a cost of $20 per person, and advanced reservations are required. Contact Dolores Ryan at 203-259-6305, ext 103.

Founded in 1898, Connecticut Audubon Society is an independent, statewide, nonprofit membership organization dedicated to providing excellence in environmental education, encouraging the conservation of the state’s natural resources, and advocating for enlightened public policy on environmental matters.
