Book Sale Organizers Say They Are Still Counting The Proceeds

It is two weeks since the conclusion of the annual Friends of the Library C.H. Booth Labor Day Book Sale, and checks were still being counted this week.
According to Friends of the Library President Mary Maki, a final accounting of how much was raised, with all the bills in, should take place in a week or two.
The 29th annual sale ended on September 8, with Friends spokespersons reporting it was another blockbuster year for the sale, with more customers purchasing more books than any other year.
Last year the Friends of the Library grossed more than $113,000 from the annual sale.
All proceeds benefit the library. The Friends group has advised that part of the money raised this year would be used for an endowment for the library. Other funds benefit the childrenâs department, young adult department, and programs, as well as providing new and replacement books.
As funds were still being counted, volunteers were already working to prepare for next yearâs sale. Books donated by residents pour into the library year round, and book sale volunteers work throughout the year, sorting, pricing, and boxing the books.
The Booth Library sale is one of the largest in the Northeast.
