UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CONGREGATION OF DANBURY
24 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury
798-1994 (main office) or 438-7190 (DRE office) www.uudanbury.org
Rev Linda Hansen, Minister
Mary Collins, Director of Religious Education (DRE)
The Unitarian Universalist Congregation holds two Sunday services, at 9 and 11 am, in Alumni Hall on the campus of Western Connecticut State University. On Sunday, September 26, Rev Linda Hansen will lead âCrossing Boundaries â Happy Birthday, George Gershwin!â Rev Hansen, long a lover of Gershwinâs music, canât resist a tribute to him when his 106th birthday actually falls on a Sunday. Gershwin was someone who refused to stick to conventional boundaries: a composer who wrote both popular and serious music (sometimes in the same piece), a Jew who wrote an opera about African Americans. Gershwin was often criticized for the way he crossed boundaries, but perhaps we have much to learn from him instead. All of the music will be Gershwinâs, thanks to pianist Max Vladimiroff, congregant Catie Gormley Berg. All Religious Education classes for Pre-first through ninth grades meet during the 9 am service; the High School Youth Group meets at 11 am. Nursery care is available during both services. For more information, call the church office or visit the website.
