Dog in Road

Motorist Terrence O’Neill, 17, of 28 Still Hill Road was driving a Dodge Dart southbound on Walnut Tree Hill Road about 4:15 pm September 16 when he saw a dog in the road, police said.

To avoid the dog, O’Neill steered hard to the left, but in doing so, he struck a bridge abutment. Police reported that O’Neill was not injured and was not charged.

Bulbs Broken

Police said they received a report about 10:15 am September 21 that someone had broken three light bulbs mounted in fixtures on a grassy area in front of Robert Anthony’s Hair Salon at 85 South Main Street sometime between 9 pm September 20 and 8:45 am September 21.

Police said the perpetrator broke the light bulbs either with beer bottles or with a pumpkin.

 The damage estimate is $20. Police ask anyone with information about the criminal mischief to contact them.

 

Altercation

Police said they responded to 19 Riverside Road on September 23 to quell an altercation. On arriving, they found the male victim of the fight with a cut on his right arm, police said.

Police charged Todd Dittman, 20, of 19 Riverside Road with breach of peace. Dittman is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on October 9 to answer the charge.

Oakview Break

Police report that sometime between September 5 and 15 someone entered an apartment on Oakview Road and stole $2,000 in concealed money.

The crime constitutes third-degree larceny and second-degree burglary. Police ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them.

Credit Card

A Wendover Road man reported to police on September 21 that someone sometime between July 3 and 25 had stolen a concealed credit card from his home. The man told police that someone had charged $1,565 in items on the credit card. Police are investigating the crime and ask anyone with details about the matter to contact them.

Key Rock Road

Motorist Kelly Vezina, 21, of Southbury was driving a 1992 Toyota Celica northbound on Key Rock Road about 5 pm September 20, when she lost control of the auto and drove onto the lawn of 43 Key Rock Road, police said.

Vezina was not injured. Police issued Vezina a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Rear-Ender

Motorist Romi Carrijo, 30, of Danbury, who was driving a 1995 Ford Aspire northbound on South Main Street about 6 pm September 21, stopped for a traffic signal that had just turned red at the intersection of South Main Street and Mile Hill Road, police said.

Northbound motorist Richard Lange, 48, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1997 Ford Ranger pickup truck, was not able to stop in time and struck the Aspire from behind, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Lange a written warning for following too closely.

Motorcycle Stopped

State police report they stopped motorcyclist Cullis Mayfield, 44, of Goldens Bridge, N.Y., for erratic driving on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 4:30 pm September 16. State police said that on investigating, they charged Mayfield with operating a motor vehicle while under suspension. State police released Mayfield on a $500 bond for a September 24 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Interstate Collision

State police report a two-car accident on eastbound Interstate 84 about 5 pm September 17.

State police said motorist Barry Carol, 44, of Wantagh, N.Y., who was driving a 1992 Honda coupe, stopped for stopped traffic on the highway and was then struck from behind by motorist Jeffrey Brown, 41, of Forest Hills, N.Y,, who was driving a 1997 Toyota sedan. There were no injuries. State police said Brown was following too closely.

Highway Crash

State police report a two-car collision on westbound Interstate 84 about 3:30 pm September 17.

State police said motorist Bruce Bobins, 39, of Waterbury was driving a 1988 Mitsubishi in the middle lane, while motorist Diane Mulvey, 42, of Waterbury was driving a 1989 Pontiac in the left lane.

The two autos made contact, state police said. There were no injuries. State police said each motorist blamed the other for the collision.

MV Charges

Police report they stopped motorist Kimberly Mauer, 27, of Danbury on September 24 for driving 54 miles per hour in a 30-mph zone on The Boulevard, north of its intersection with Hall Lane.

Police charged Mauer with traveling unreasonably fast and operating a motor vehicle while under suspension. Police released Mauer on a $240 bond for an October 10 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Castle Hill Crash

Police report an accident between a school bus and a Honda on Castle Hill Road on September 25.

Police said motorist Maria Kowarick, 17, of 5 Hawthorne Hill Road was driving a 1998 Honda downhill on Castle Hill Road, near King Street, when she lost control of the auto on a sharp curve in wet conditions.

Westbound motorist John Cash, 52, of 66 Barnabas Road, who was driving a 2000 International school bus, saw that the Honda was traveling out of control and pulled to the right side of the road, but was struck by the Honda, police said. There were no injuries in the collision, police said. The bus carried three passengers. The Honda had two passengers.

Police issued Kowarick a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

Warrant

Police said they served a warrant September 25 against Armando Cardona, no age given, of Meriden on a charge of failure to respond to a violation. The warrant stems from a past parking violation, police said.

Police released Cardona on a $40 bond for an October 9 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Multiple Charges

Police report they saw motorist William Robertson, 24, of 14 Mile Hill Road South traveling fast on Queen Street near Glover Avenue about 10 am September 18. Police stopped Robertson on Queen Street to investigate.

Police charged Robertson with traveling too fast, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police released him on a $100 bond for an October 2 court appearance.

Truck Vs Equestrienne

Police report an accident between a horseback rider and a dump truck about 5:10 pm September 13 on Toddy Hill Road near Clear View Drive.

Police said motorist James Ryan, 35, of Monroe was driving a 1969 Mack dump truck on Toddy Hill Road as a group of horseback riders was traveling in the opposite direction on a grassy road shoulder adjacent to the truck’s line of travel.

As the truck was passing the riders, one of the horses became frightened, turned toward the roadway and collided with the truck, police said. The horse rolled over and threw its rider, Mary Gover, 12, of 7 Shamrock Lane. Botsford firefighters and the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the scene.

The ambulance transported Gover to Danbury Hospital for treatment of a concussion, hand injury, and scraped arm, police said.

The horse received injuries to its buttocks and was walked to its stable where it was checked out by a veterinarian, police said. Gover’s saddle was damaged in the accident.

Police said Ryan was operating a vehicle with unsafe tires but that the condition of the tires did not contribute to the accident.
