To the Editor:

Mitch Bolinsky is a caring, responsible, sensitive-to-issues-and-people’s-problems, results-driven representative for the town we love and call home, Newtown. He always has time to speak with a constituent, help with a problem or worthy cause, and represent Newtown’s best interest in Hartford. He works tirelessly into many a late night to accomplish things; most recently helping to get pandemic-related unemployment benefits for many and also helping families find resources to keep food on their tables and a shelter over their heads.

There have been untruthful accusations and insinuations made about Mitch, but I can attest that there isn’t a misogynistic or racist bone in his body. I know this to be true because I’ve known him more than 40 years; he’s my partner, best friend, and husband of 35 years. Together, we’ve raised two wonderful, giving children and spent much of the last decade caring for our elderly parents, losing three of them in just the last year. It’s been hard but, like everything, we faced each challenge together.

The comment in question had no place on my husband’s campaign Facebook page and no one is more disappointed than we are. Nothing about it benefited his campaign and sadly this has totally overshadowed his excellent record of serving our seniors. When Mitch got out of his meeting Sunday afternoon and saw it, he edited the post, took ultimate responsibility, was sensitive to the reaction and expressed his regrets.

As with me, Mitch stands with Newtown and its residents regardless of their race, creed, sex, or color. I have watched as he has served our community with distinction for eight years. Mitch is a loving, empathetic person who feels things deeply, which makes him such a successful and effective advocate. He is our best choice in November.
