To the Editor:

I write this after just attending a gathering of Rebekah Harriman-Stites supporters in which the candidate relayed her concern with Mitch Bolinsky’s recent misogynistic comment aimed at her. The original comment is as follows: “Seniors don’t need a pretty face and promises. They need a man of action who genuinely cares. That’s Mitch.”

Bolinsky then went on to edit it and tweak the comment after getting caught in his own pathetic and unnecessary words.

It appears we have entered a place in this country where civility and decency have been traded for bullying tactics and name calling. Is this truly how we want to conduct ourselves as we claim to expect our children to be considerate and civil to each other?

All over Newtown we see signs: “Be Kind.” But is that just a slogan to be ignored? I’m beginning to think so. We can and must do better.
