To the Editor:

My name is David Plouffe and my mom, Joan Plouffe, is running for reelection to the Police Commission.

The first thing that comes to my mind when I think about my mom and her involvement in our town is how committed she is to giving back to the community. My mom has constantly been volunteering her time to this town for as long as I can remember, with her efforts on the town’s Charter Revision Committee, constant involvement in PTA boards, strategic planning for the school district, and the hard work she put into the Commission on Aging, to name a few.

Besides always giving back to this town, my mom has always been the first person to step up when someone is in need of help. When First Selectman Dan Rosenthal encouraged her to fill his position on the Police Commission after he was elected, she didn’t hesitate to accept his offer, despite being faced with the obstacle of having no previous experience on the commission. Because of this challenge, my mom was constantly studying and preparing to serve on the commission, reviewing years of meeting minutes, and preparing before every meeting. On top of that, being trained as a lawyer, she’s a good asset for the Newtown Police Commission.

I’m really excited to vote for her in my first time voting, and I hope you vote for her too.
