Youth Charged With Sexual Assault
Police report that after learning that they held a warrant against him stemming from a past incident, a boy under age 18 went to the police station on the afternoon of September 15 and was arrested on charges of third-degree sexual assault and second-degree unlawful restraint.
Police started an investigation into the case after receiving a criminal complaint from a person at a Sandy Hook address on the night of July 30.
The unlawful restraint charge indicates that the defendant allegedly used physical force during the incident, police said. Police declined to provide details about the incident which led to the boyâs arrest.
After processing, the boy was placed into the custody of his mother and was released on a written promise to appear in court on September 26, police said. The arrested youth does not pose a threat to society, police said.
The sexual assault charge is a felony and the unlawful restraint charge is a misdemeanor.
Because the youth charged with the crimes is under age 18, state law shields his identity from public disclosure. Consequently, court proceedings in the case are held in closed session.
