WestConn Students To Hold One-Day Carnival For Wounded Warrior Project
DANBURY â Western Connecticut State University sophomore Jesse Meade knows what it is like to be a soldier. That is why the 22-year-old Justice and Law Administration student and eight other university students are helping to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project.
From 11 am to 5 pm on Saturday, September 24, there will be a carnival on the midtown campus of the university, 181 White Street. The event will be set up in the field adjacent to Eighth Avenue and across from the White Street parking garage. There will be five inflated play sets, including a slide and obstacle course, face painting, balloon animals and a buffet lunch with hotdogs, hamburgers and ice cream.
Admission is $10 for adults and $3 for kids under 12.
The Wounded Warrior Project is a nonprofit, national effort that helps injured service members, provides programs to meet the needs of injured service members, raises awareness, and enlists public aid.
Mr Meade, a member of the Army National Guard and a Bethlehem resident, is organizing the event with fellow Litchfield Hall Resident Assistants, and WCSU student Nicolle Donadio of Coventry. While their goal is to raise $1,000 for the project, Mr Meade said he also wants the community to become involved in helping veterans.
âYou see a lot of vets come back from overseas and they need help getting back to normal life,â Mr Meade said. âAll wounds arenât visible. A lot suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, but they look like everyone else.â
