Watercolors By Wilk,

Wednesday For SCAN

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Laura Wilk painting in watercolor on Wednesday, September 28, at 1:30 pm.

The demonstration will take place at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is invited, free of charge.

Laura Wilk is a Connecticut artist who has lived and worked in the state for most of her professional career, which has spanned 25 years. She started as a fiber artist painting on silk and now works exclusively in watercolor, primarily creating highly detailed, representational paintings.

Ms Wilk often picks her subjects by color, and is particularly drawn to the reds and oranges found in fruits and flowers. She works in transparent paint and layers extensively to get the deep, rich color that fill her paintings. She likes to change the mundane into the spectacular, by making her subjects radiate with light.

She has had a number of solo shows and participated in many group shows in New York and Connecticut, receiving numerous awards, including the top award from Connecticut Watercolor Society. Her most recent awards were from the New England Watercolor Society and SCAN, as well as The Richard Ochs Memorial Watercolor Award from Kent Art Association and an award from Easton Arts Council.

Her work has been published in the 2011 Splash: Best of Watercolor. She is represented by Dragonfly Gallery on Martha’s Vineyard and her work is on permanent display at Halstead Property in Wilton.

Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs, but additional information is always available from Ruth Newquist. Call her at 203-426-6654.
