Summer Basketball Teams Conclude Session

The Rising Star Summer League basketball program’s championship game was held at Dickinson Park on September 13. Syracuse defeated UConn 54-42.

The Orangemen were undefeated during the regular season, including exciting overtime and double overtime wins, and continued their winning ways through the playoffs to finish up with a perfect 13-0 record, Syracuse Coach Brian Shaker said.

UConn Coach Paul Berger noted that his team members came together and played as a team during the course of the summer. Berger added that the league featured a variety of players at different ages, sizes, and skill levels, and that there was a focus on fun. “So the kids relax and they get to play basketball, get used to each other and everybody makes a contribution to the overall effort. And they seem to have a good time playing the game regardless of the final score,” Berger said.
